Arma 2's DayZ mod surpasses 500k users

DayZ, Arma 2's zombie survival mod, has hit the 500,000 player milestone. I haven't played it yet, but I do have two friends who are obsessed with it. From what they tell me about it, it's not hard to see why so many players are flocking to the mod.

In DayZ you play as one of the survivors in an open world post-soviet state hit by a new and presently unknown virus. With most of the world's population now extinct, you must fight to survive against what is left of the population now infected with the disease. It's not just zombies you need to worry about, but even other players also fighting to survive.

Sounds exciting, right?

“Congratulations everyone, with your support through tough times, mistakes, troubles, and technical problems, we now have over 500k users!” the DayZ development team wrote on Twitter.

The current unique player count sits at 506,473. And for the record, the average life expectancy is 35 minutes according to the mod's website. So good luck with that...
